Limited floor space?  Why not consider a hanging lamp

Shopping for home lighting can be a lot of fun but also very challenging.  The challenge comes in because of the selection.  You can choose from floor lamps, table lamps, sconces, chandeliers, Tiffany style lighting even a hanging lamp such as pendants.  The biggest question asked is where do you start?  A floor, table or hanging lamp will all light up a room, but what type of effect are you after?

Floor lamps are most often used in living rooms where there is little or not ceiling lighting.  We always recommend getting lamps with gradual dimmers or 3 ways switches so that they are versatile and can create different lighting moods.  We would recommend a hanging lamp over your kitchen or dining room table, breakfast bar or island.  Over a bar or island, pendants are always a popular choice.

In your dining room or kitchen, the shape of your hanging lamp will depend on the shape of your table.  Some people like to mix a square table with a cylinder pendant or vise versa, however, we always like to match a square table with a square pendant.  We feel it works better.  That being said, there are no real lighting rules other than pick the ones you like to best and have fun.
